MSI Premiere Composer, Andrew Crookall....

Andrew Crookall was born in 1963 in Cheshire, North West England. He moved south of London to study music at the University of Surrey in 1981, graduating in 1984 with a BMus (Hons) degree and an ALCM in piano performance. At the same time he sang tenor in Guildford Cathedral Choir touring France, Belgium, Holland and Canada and making regular BBC broadcasts and commercial recordings, before leaving to sing at various churches in London including St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

He has been the Musical Director of various choirs ranging from 10 members to over 7,000 often composing music for them and also by commission for other choral ensembles. These include cantatas, responses, anthems, carols, hymn tunes, psalm chants, songs and five settings of the Mass. In addition he has edited or arranged over 150 anthems, carols and songs.

He has also written seven musicals for schools, incidental music for numerous theatrical productions, a one act opera based on a book by Beatrix Potter and a full-scale Broadway-style musical which is currently being prepared for a London premiere and UK National tour. His compositions, arrangements and editions have been sung at venues throughout Britain including St John’s, Smith Square, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and four West End Theatres as well as being performed in France, Canada, Australia, Japan and New York. Five recordings featuring his compositions and arrangements are available.
